what month is it?

before taking off for romania, we decided to head down to the polish mountains and do some hiking. we were dreaming of walking the green hills in shorts, jumping in lakes and streams.... well, not exactly. it was green for a little while but as soon as we scaled the mammoth mountains things got a little cold and snowy. most of the time we were left wondering what month we were in.... it definitely felt like february and not june.

we spent 4 days hiking and it was pretty cool because we just slept at different mountain hostels along the way. they were amazing old log buildings tucked away in the middle of nowhere. last night was fun because poland was playing in the world cup, so everyone was squished into the kitchen watching this tiny tv, chanting things in polish, drinking lots of vodka and trying to educate us on the finer points of football.

we were also able to explore some caves. which was pretty intense as things got a little tight at times and our headlamps and flashlight weren't the best. but we were laughing at how anyone could just go into these caves, without any sort of pre-knowledge, maps or anything... i don't think it'd be like this back home.

Looks like you guys are having a good time! Nothing like climbing Mt. Raineer though, I must say. We'll have to get in touch soon and start planning some summer plans, Chris. I could do with another wild camping trip- even if I am the big pregnant one this time... (might make getting fire wood in the rain more interesting......) Hope you are having a swell time. I know of some crazy Romanians if you need a place to stay.

Well it's no kazakstan, and deffinately no krygyzstan, but some aspects of life are still so relatable for me here. Especially post soviet culture. It's awesome to see your photos and the journey. I wish i could have met codi there too, but until then. Have a great summer.
